History/Social Science
The History-Social Science Subcommittee of the Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee works with the California Department of Education and other key history-social science statewide organizations to promote this academic area, develop resources, and provide professional development to improve teachers' ability to teach history-social science and improve student achievement. In working in collaboration with many organizations, this committee shares and distributes professional development opportunities and develops curriculum support documents. These documents include "Pages of the Past" (K-6 literature list aligned to the state standards), "Tales of Time" (4-6 literature list aligned to the state standards), and a history-social science tool kit to help school districts select a state approved textbook.
