Language Arts

The CISC Language Arts Subcommittee works together to plan and coordinate regional and statewide activities that support statewide literacy initiatives, and to develop resources that support districts and schools in implementing standards-based reading language arts programs using California State Board adopted instructional materials. The Early Assessment Program (EAP), the Vocabulary Forum, and the Secondary Literacy Summit are examples of initiatives that have been supported through the CISC Language Arts Subcommittee. Resources that have been developed by the Subcommittee include: Student Assessment and Placement in Reading/Language Arts Programs for Grades 6-12 which supports school districts in utilizing effective placement and instructional practices for students who should be using state-adopted intervention materials as their core program; the Reading/Language Arts Adoption Toolkit (in production) that will assist districts throughout California in selecting instructional materials; and the Reading/Language Arts Instruction and Special Needs Students publication (in production).
